How to Make Homemade Candles

Making candles at home is a lot of fun and is also a great way to save some cash on the expensive fragrances you can buy in stores. Once your candle is complete, you can cherish it for years and remember the experience of making it. Here is a simple guide that can help you learn how to make homemade candles.
Find a wick
Cotton string is the best choice. You need about three inches of it to make a decent wick.
Pick a jar
Baby food jars are a common choice for smaller candles. If you want to make a larger candle, try using a pickle jar. Clean out the jar very well and then spray the inside with vegetable oil spray. This makes it easier to remove the candle once it is set.
Melt the old candles
Place a pot on the stove and fill it about half-way up with water. When this comes to a boil, insert your coffee can full of old candle pieces into the boiling water. Stir as the wax melts. When it is completely melted, pour it into the jar and then place the wick into the middle.
Let it cool
Allow the candle to set. This may take several hours depending on its size. You can then remove the candle from the jar, using a knife to go around the edges if needed.
Making your own candles is fast and easy. With some practice, you can turn out several candles per day and use them as gifts for friends and family members.
